Description
On Giving Day 2024, the Laboratory Schools celebrate their membership in the University of Chicago community. As one of the schools with direct ties to such an institution, Lab is honored to highlight one of the benefits it gleans from this unique partnership.
Summer Link is Lab’s internship program that places U-High students in paid summer internships with University of Chicago professors and institutes, Chicago businesses, and local organizations. Many of these students work on campus at the University of Chicago.
The Summer Link program includes internships with Fortune 500 companies, city officials, and museums. Students in their sophomore and junior years apply to the prestigious program under computer science, science, business, the social sciences, and the humanities.
Giving Day is a time when the entire University community comes together to show their appreciation for the variety of educational opportunities this institution provides. Help celebrate Lab and the University of Chicago by showing your appreciation today!
Donations are applied to...
The cost of running the Summer Link program is roughly $235,000 a year. Your gift will help provide equipment, salaries for each student, and supervising faculty stipends.
Why are donations necessary?
This Giving Day, every gift supporting Summer Link helps underwrite an opportunity that allows incoming junior and senior Labbies to learn, grow, and develop through the program. Your support will ensure that signature programs like Summer Link enable Lab to provide an academic experience unlike any other in the country.
Lab’s Giving Day goal: 300 members of the community—alumni, parents, alumni parents, faculty, and staff—will show their appreciation for this uniquely Lab experience by giving back today.
In 2023, 65 students participated in Summer Link. They described invaluable, positive experiences that have transformed their thinking about the nature of work, the field, and themselves. Through their internships, students reported developing skills such as problem-solving, working with others, and individual initiative. Some reported finding a keen interest or passion in the work for which they were responsible.
Summer Link is a program that leverages Lab’s connection to UChicago faculty and Lab’s own network of employers. Lab is honored to pair high schoolers with published economists, chemists, historians, and astronomers every year at Summer Link.
